The Field Guide to the Neighborhood Project is meant to help us get to know the place we live in a way that we haven't always had time for. We meet once a month to share our growing awareness of our "neighborhood" (defined by our proximity to Six Mile Creek - source of the water we drink and life blood of East Hill and Southside Ithaca). Participants pay attention to one new thing in the "neighborhood" each month and prepare a short "entry" to share at a once-per-month meeting of the whole group. Ultimately, the goal is to compile many of these entries into a field guide-style book. But the real joy might be in the process itself... paying attention to the environs of Six Mile Creek with the extended observational capacity of our entire neighborhood (well, anyone who wants to participate)...and getting to know our neighbors better along the way.
